Atinav Adds Bluetooth to Wireless Server Module; aveAccess Wireless Server Enables Incompatible Devices to Communicate Over Incompatible Networks

ScreamingMedia, Business Wire

New York, October 4, 2000Atinav, a provider of universal Internet communications software, today announced it has added the Bluetooth standard to its aveAccess Wireless Server module. aveAccess, which also is set up to work with Jini-enabled devices, is Java-based software that acts as a translator between the Internet and any communication device (from traditional telephones to PDAs to WAP phones). The software provides the ability to access and translate Internet resources in real time over any carrier network.

"aveAccess is among the first software products to incorporate all three leading standards for wireless communications and interaction," said Matin Moosa, COO, Atinav. "We feel Bly about giving our customers the freedom they deserve from the 'wireless Net,' and this includes integrating every standard in the market today, including all domestic and international communication carriers and hardware (bearer) protocols and wireless standards."

The Wireless Server (WS) module of aveAccess enables heterogeneous devices that support protocols for Jini and Bluetooth to communicate with each other over the Internet and wireless networks. By integrating WAP push technology, the Wireless Server provides access to and control of these devices over any network--LAN, Internet or wireless. The company also is providing a software development kit (SDK) with the Wireless Server in order for customers to make their application interoperable with Bluetooth and Jini technologies.

Wireless Server revolutionizes applications such as metering, telemetry, monitoring and administering by allowing thousands of client devices from microwaves to power plants, automobiles to corporate networks, PDAs to WAP Phones, to report and access small chunks of data. The benefits include enabling client devices to do everything from monitoring electricity usage on home appliances to remote administration and monitoring of LANs and computers. By making incompatible devices communicate with each other over incompatible networks, Wireless Server extends the power of the Internet and wireless networks.

Moosa added: "As a company, we see integrating such technologies as Bluetooth as a tremendous market opportunity in which we can capitalize. In fact, Bluetooth technology will be integrated into some 80 percent of mobile phones and more than 1 million personal computers by 2002. The market volume is projected to reach $7 billion by 2005, according to Dataquest. This puts Atinav at the cusp of a new era of Internet technology."

Although aveAccess will be marketed to businesses, end-users will truly benefit. aveAccess provides end-users with greater freedom and control over when and how they can utilize the Internet. aveAccess will enable mobile workers to remotely access Web data, connect with networks from anywhere, and communicate with devices irrespective of platform. This level of functionality will save businesses time, reduce overhead, and maximize productivity.

aveAccess also will be able to seamlessly integrate with Atinav's aveComm product. aveComm provides Java-based, feature-rich modules such as Voice-over-IP, application sharing, white board, co-browsing, HTML form sharing, and more. By using these products in conjunction, businesses will be able to complete the full range of communication and collaboration activities over the Internet--both PC-to-PC and device-to-device.
