Atinav's launchs aveLink Technologies to enable a Connected World

Software that enables incompatible devices to communicate over incompatible networks

New York, May 31, 2001Atinav Inc., a provider of integrated networking technology tools that add compatibility and communication connectivity, today launched aveLink, new software technology that enables incompatible devices to interact and communicate over incompatible networks.

aveLink is a framework technology that allows heterogeneous devices or services to communicate, share functionality and provide accessibility to any type of network from browser/non-browser based clients. The software allows devices and services incorporating different standards (i.e. Jini, UPnP, etc.) to connect through different networking technologies (i.e. Bluetooth, Home RF and IEEE 802.11, etc.) Using aveLink, the incompatible devices or services form a temporary network that enables access to the Internet, a LAN/WAN or a wireless network. The product also provides an application development platform, so service providers can quickly develop services using multiple technologies.

“The true benefit to aveLink is its ability to integrate multiple standards and technologies, thereby alleviating the burden on the developer of understanding all the different environments,” said Kash Patel, CIO, Atinav. “We feel that the aveLink product is uniquely placed to provide our customers a development framework that can incorporate future technologies without the need to rewrite existing solutions.”

The first version of aveLink supports Bluetooth, Jini, UPnP, WAP, and I-mode. The client gateway (Embedded Gateway) of aveLink has been developed using the OSGi standard. aveLink is designed in such a way that new technologies (HomeRF, Salutation etc) can be added easily.

Patel added: “As a company, we see integrating technologies such as Bluetooth a tremendous market opportunities in which we can capitalize, and we’re excited that businesses are starting to embrace this new standard. Cahners In-Stat Group expects shipments of Bluetooth-enabled products to reach 955 million by 2005. This puts Atinav at the cusp of a new era of Internet technology.”

aveLink can also integrate seamlessly with Atinav’s aveComm and aveAccess products. aveComm provides Java-based, feature-rich modules such as Voice-over-IP, application sharing, white board, co-browsing, HTML form sharing, and more. aveAccess is a Java-based software that acts as a translator between the Internet and any communication device (from traditional telephones to PDAs to WAP phones). The software provides the ability to access and translate Internet resources in real time over any carrier network. By using these products in conjunction, businesses will be able to complete the full range of communication, collaboration and management activities over the Internet—both PC-to-PC and device-to-device.
