Atinav launches aveLink OSGi Framework, software that enables incompatible devices to communicate over incompatible

New Technologies enable a connected World systems

New Jersey, November 14, 2001 - Atinav Inc. (www.atinav.com), a provider of universal Internet access and communications applications for the digital economy, today launched aveLink OSGi Framework, a new software technology based on the Open Standards Gateway Initiative (OSGi) that allows heterogeneous devices or services to communicate, share functionality and provide accessibility to any type of network from browser/non-browser based clients

aveLink OSGi Framework allows devices and services incorporating different standards (i.e. Jini, UPnP, etc.) to connect through different networking technologies (i.e. Bluetooth, Home RF and IEEE 802.11, etc.) Using aveLink, the incompatible devices or services form a temporary network that enables it to have access to the Internet, a LAN/WAN or a wireless network. The product also provides an application development platform, so service providers can quickly develop services using the supported technologies.

aveLink OSGi Framework contains OSGi defined Bundles for Log and HTTP, Remote Administration Bundles for HTTP, Telnet and Admin, Technology Bundles for JINI Lookup Service, WAP Gateway and SMS Gateway and Interoperability Bundles for Thick and Thin Client Interfaces including support for JINI Interfaces. Optional Bundles available, include support for Bluetooth and UPnP.

aveLink OSGi Framework Technology can be incorporated in devices such as phones, web pads, control devices and residential gateways. aveLink OSGi Framework supports Java technology and will work with any operating system supporting J2SE. Also available is support for J2ME, for small, embedded devices.

“The true benefit to aveLink is its ability to integrate multiple standards and technologies, thereby alleviating the burden on the developer of knowing all the different environments,” said Kash Patel, CIO, Atinav. “We feel that the aveLink product is unique, as it provides our customers a development framework that can incorporate future technologies without having to rewrite existing solutions.”

Atinav’s aveLink OSGi Framework comes with full documentation, as well as manuals describing the process of creating interoperability services. The detailed manuals are supplemented by working example code that describes how to create a JINI Printer and Fax service application.

Patel added: “According to Park Associates, the emerging market for residential gateways will more than triple over the next five years, growing from 8.6 million units in 2001 to more than 33 million units in 2005. This is a tremendous market opportunity for Atinav”.
